1. About this policy

Haskap Learning (“Haskap”, “we”, “us”) provides one-to-one learning support for children aged 5–17: Home Learning, tutoring and remediation, cognitive profiling, and training for schools. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.

We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA). Where we support families in the United Kingdom, the European Union or North America, we also respect the data protection laws that apply to them.

We are the data controller for the information described here. If you have any question about this policy or your information, contact us:

  • WhatsApp: +234 818 799 2928
  • Email: info@haskaplearning.com

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to support your child well and run our service.

We do not ask for, and ask you not to send, information we do not need, such as a child’s medical records or government ID numbers. If you choose to share health or learning-difference information (for example, a diagnosis of ADHD or dyslexia), we treat it as sensitive and use it only to tailor your child’s support.

3. How we use information, and why

We never sell personal information, and we do not use children’s information for advertising. We do not make decisions about your child by automated means alone: Home Learning recommendations and the 2-minute check are reviewed and explained by a person.

4. Children’s information

Our services are for children, so we take extra care with their information.

  • Parental consent. We collect a child’s information only from, or with the consent of, a parent or legal guardian, as the NDPA requires for anyone under 18. Schools that refer a child confirm they have the parent’s agreement.
  • Only what helps learning. We use a child’s information to teach, support and report on their progress, and for nothing else.
  • Children’s accounts. Children receive a login for Home Learning. These accounts show learning content and progress only, and children cannot use them to contact anyone outside Haskap.
  • Online lessons. Lessons take place on secure video platforms. We do not record lessons unless you agree first, and any recording is used only for your child’s learning or for quality and safeguarding checks.
  • Photos and quotes. We never publish a child’s name, photo or work without your written permission. Parent comments on our website are shared only with the parent’s permission and without children’s names.
  • Safeguarding. If we believe a child is at risk of harm, we may share relevant information with the appropriate authorities, as the law allows.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only when needed to provide our service, and only with organisations bound to protect it.

  • Our tutors, who see only the information they need to teach your child.
  • Our Home Learning platform provider, which hosts your child’s adaptive lessons and progress data.
  • Our cognitive assessment partner, which runs the online cognitive profile when you choose that service.
  • Service providers for email and document storage (such as Google Workspace), messaging (WhatsApp), video lessons, website hosting, analytics and payment processing.
  • Your child’s school, only if you ask us to.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it or a child’s safety is at risk.

We sign agreements with our service providers requiring them to keep information secure and use it only on our instructions.

International transfers. Some of these providers store information outside Nigeria, for example in the United Kingdom, the European Union or the United States. We transfer information only where the NDPA allows it, for example where the destination offers adequate protection or where suitable contractual safeguards are in place.
